Our baby’s one year old! It’s hard to imagine that Hooloovoo is growing up and reached it’s 1st birthday!
It all started as a small throw away idea over a glass of wine last April. A ‘wouldn’t that be a great thing to do’ idea. There was Lol wanting to find a new challenge and Simi, one of the best hairdresser’s in the northern hemisphere returning after a year’s world travelling and there was Simon with his marketing and business background looking for a sound investment for his pension fund (poor old thing).
Next day the small idea started growing into a bigger idea and, before we knew it, we were consumed and overtaken until we knew we had to do it.
Hooloovoo was born – a big, bright, shining, bouncing brainchild that grew with alacrity. Our vision never waivered. We were to be the best. We were to going to be fresh, bold, creative and brilliant. We were going to be ‘Hooloovoo’.
Within weeks it had roller coastered , appointments with the bank, the accountant, the solicitor, business advisors, estate agents, marketing people, ad. men. And when we found the premises we were off……..
By the end of July we had the salon and the staff. By 11th August, we were open. But would the customers come?
Thankfully they came - at first in small numbers but as word spread so we got busier and busier and our customers loved it so much, they keep on coming back and telling their friends about us. So a big thanks goes out to all those loyal customers.
We’ve accomplished so much, it’s hard to think we’ve actually managed it. Exhibitor stands at the Archant Wedding Fair at Caister Hall and the Freshers’ Fair at U.E.A and the daunting prospect of the Lord Mayors Procession (very, very exhausting, but worthwhile). We’ve had our own photo shoots for our portfolio and web site, numerous other publications and publicity make-overs for press articles, ranging from the Latitude Festival and an up and coming Norwich band, Bearsuit, to party hairstyles and make-up tips. It seems hardly a week goes by when we’re not doing something ‘extra curricula’. We actually do manage to find time do what we’re here to do, which is creative, innovative and talented hairdressing!
And we’re so helped by our dedicated staff who have stood by us through thick and thin and uncertainty. They’re a great team, supportive and encouraging and always coming up with new ideas, concepts and schemes!
So if you haven’t experienced the Hooloovoo effect yet why not give us a call and book a free consultation to see what we could do for you.
RACHEL’S DONE IT
Congratulations Rachel has qualified!!!
After three years of hard slog, whilst working full time, studying three nights a week, training one night a week and working for Hooloovoo on Saturdays Rachel (Postill) has successfully qualified as a hairdresser.
Rachel is Hooloovoo’s first stylist to have trained with us and she has finally just qualified and what an achievement that has been! Rachel has a natural talent for colour and is such a perfectionist in everything she does. She is a creative, energetic person perfectly suited to hairdressing. “I so pleased I am now a qualified hairdresser, its what I have wanted all my life and I have finally achieved my goal, I’m now looking forward to getting stuck in and building my client base.”
Well done, Rachel, you deserve all you’ve achieved.

OXFAM Fashion Show
"Hooloovoo took part in the recent Oxfam recycled fashion show, which raised over £2000 for the charity.
Oxfam and 150 models, designers and helpers aged 16-25 hosted a charity catwalk show. Hooloovoo were hairdressers for the 1950s decade which was chaotically hard work and hectic, but really worthwhile and excellent experience for our hairdressing skills. Simi McGeorge and Becky Read were assisted and advised by Maureen Outing - aged 76 she was the oldest person involved! Her whole career was in hairdressing and owning her own Salons and her knowledge and wealth of experience really helped bring it all together. Simi, Maureen's granddaughter, said "She has taught me so much and especially for this event. She was calm and professional and knew exactly what she was doing. She's still an amazing hairdresser! I wish I could employ her at Hooloovoo."
We'd like to thank Oxfam for the opportunity to take part in such a worthwhile and interesting evening.”

Hooloovoo Helps Local Solicitor Raise Money for Children’s Hospice
You could force me to look like this but I can only do it with your help...!!

East Anglia's Children's Hospices, EACH, supports families throughout their experience of caring for children with life-threatening conditions and complex healthcare needs. EACH operates from 3 sites at Milton near Cambridge, Quidenham in Norfolk and Ipswich in Suffolk and is a registered charity which relies on public support for around 80% of its required income of approximately £5.5 million per year - which is why voluntary income is absolutely vital.
My wife Roswyn and I were fortunate to receive help from EACH in caring for our daughter, Astrid Ella, who was born on 1 November 2006 with a Chromosome Disorder known as Edwards Syndrome and who passed away in mid January 2007. EACH provided an extraordinary level of support to the whole family in our home during a very rewarding but stressful and difficult time. For example amongst many other things EACH's dedicated team enabled Astrid to experience Music Therapy and Craft Activities and enabled Roswyn and I to secure an invaluable nights sleep every 10 days or so by providing overnight nursing care in our home. EACH has continued to provide emotional and counselling support since Astrid's death.
To celebrate the birth of our son, Francis Sione Alan on 2 October 2008, and in memory of Astrid Ella we would like to raise some money to support EACH and to enable them to continue to provide support to other families needing their help. To this end I have resisted having my hair cut since I found out that Roswyn was pregnant again and now have a serious Mullet and am in danger of finding something nesting up there and/or being mistaken for a 70's footballer or James May !!
I am therefore requesting your kind donations in support of a sponsored hair shave which will take place at HooLooVoo on Pottergate, Norwich on Thursday 20 November 2008. If you can help me to raise over £1,000.00, I will be having a mohican for seven days which will be dyed Chilli Red (Roswyn's idea which she has opted not to participate in) - feel free to point and laugh as I am sure you will - if I raise less than £1,000.00 then the whole lot will come off. Whatever the end result lots of photos will be taken!
Please give as much as you are able to support EACH in continuing their invaluable work. To donate you can either :
- visit the Just Giving Website on the following link http://www.justgiving.com/johnbradshaw1; or
- email me to confirm your sponsorship (I will then keep a note); or
- fill in the form (there is one in each of the kitchens (Norwich HP Staff only).
Many thanks in advance for your kindness and support - it can and will make a difference.
Kind Regards
John & Roswyn Bradshaw
